user testing
Using metal bars and wood sheets, I tested comfortability of users of heights 5'2" to 5'10".

inspiration
My final design lowers and moderizes a director's chair into lounge.
fillet diameter
I increased the fillet radius for a more fluid look and cut the bar where it meets the seat due to machining constraints.
triple under bars
Allows for maximum structural integrity and more a skeletal feel.

materials
I used mild steel 14-gauge pipes as it is easier to move around studios with its hollow insides. 2mm oil-finished leather allows for a more-luxury heft and ages beautifully over time.
side frames
I bent and cut the frame to prepare for welding.
welding
I welded the tubes shut.
14-gauge mild steel
I used 80, 220, 320 and 400 sandpaper for a brushed and slight mirror finish.
frame
under bars
After arranging the under bars, I cut the bars to length.
angle grinding
I angle grided and dremeled the welds to be smooth.
leather seat
I hand-stitched 2 pieces of oil-finished leather with nylon-cotton thread for extra strength.
users
Users noted that the backrest and seat angle were at a desired comfortability partly due to the flexibility of the leather.
